Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you’re unable to do so in the future. It’s an important part of planning ahead and protecting your interests.

We guide you through the process carefully, ensuring your wishes are clearly recorded and legally sound.

Why an LPA Is Important

Ensure trusted individuals can act on your behalf
Protect your financial and personal welfare
Avoid uncertainty or delays if decisions are needed
Provide reassurance for you and your family

Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) explained

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in England and Wales lets you choose a trusted person (or people) to make decisions for you if you can’t do so yourself in the future. It’s a practical way to protect your family, your finances, and your wishes — without uncertainty or delay.

There are two types of LPA. A Property and Financial Affairs LPA can help your attorney manage things like bank accounts, bills, pensions, and property matters. A Health and Welfare LPA relates to decisions about your care, medical treatment, and living arrangements. Many people put both in place so their family has clear authority to act if needed.

If an LPA isn’t in place and someone loses mental capacity, families may need to apply to the court to manage affairs, which can be slower and more stressful. Putting an LPA in place early gives you control over who acts for you and how decisions should be handled.

At Evans Legacy Planning, we guide you through the process in plain English. We’ll help you choose the right attorneys, explain your options clearly, and support you step-by-step so the paperwork is completed correctly and ready for registration.

If you’d like to arrange an LPA or review an existing one, get in touch and we’ll outline the next steps.

LPAs as Part of Wider Estate Planning

Lasting Powers of Attorney are an important part of wider estate planning, especially for families with property, business interests or assets to protect.

An LPA helps trusted people make decisions if you lose capacity, but it should often sit alongside the right will, trust and legacy planning.

Our Advanced Family Legacy Planning service helps families look at the bigger picture and understand what level of planning may be suitable.
